Sand Dunes

Thursday evening came...our last "official" evening at Outer Banks.  (We were leaving Friday evening to begin our drive back.)  We headed off to Kitty Hawk to their State Park that is simply acres of dunes.  We happened to be there close to sunset. The official sunset was still at least an hour away, but with the dunes in front of the sun, it was beautiful!  These pictures don't begin to capture it!

There was no way Kiara would have made it up the sand dunes, so she got to ride on Daddy's shoulders the whole time!  They were both a sweaty mess by the time we were ready to leave.  Walking up and down the different dunes was definitely a work out for all of us adults...but the the boys and their cousins didn't seem to think it was hard at all as they raced ahead of us!
Here they are at the top of one of the dunes, celebrating making it so quickly.  They actually had to wait for us to even get close enough to take a picture...that's how much quicker they moved than we did! HA!  My two are on the left side of the picture and my nephews are on the right side.
Family pictures with a two year old...yeah right!  My sister-in-law took quite a few pictures and none were the perfect family picture...so I just clicked on one to add...Kiara was pounding on daddy's head on this one! :)

The boys would race to the top of the dune and then would race down, roll down, slide down...anything wild and crazy that would create flying sand around them.  Daddy was struggling watching all of this sand everywhere!

The boys left their mark before we left by writing their names in the sand at a damp place.
These pictures don't do the dunes justice in showing how tall they were and how many there were...at some points we were surrounded by hills of sand and that is all you could see (besides all the people climbing them).

One last race down  for the cousins and we were ready to get out of there and find someplace to get a drink.  We were hot, sweaty, exhausted and oh so thirsty!  Climbing in sand in 90+ degree temps was enough to do us in for the night and create a need to jump in the pool back at the house!
